INDUSTRY AND SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUES

RISING PRICES FOR OUR COD AND LUNCH DEALS

As you all no doubt know, the current climate of the world has led to many instabilities. With tariffs, wars, and supply chain issues rampant among many industries.

The fish and chips industry has suffered greatly from all these issues, both from external problems and common occurrences due to changes of the season and unexpected issues with low supply meeting high demand.

At Fisk & Frite, we have long held out on succumbing to the recommended changes to deal with this onslaught of high costs and limited supplies.

As some of you may have heard, many takeaways have attempted to bridge the gap of these issues by substituting cod for other white fish such as Hake, Hoki and in one notable case: catfish. The latter of which was not disclosed to their clientele.

We too have had these internal discussions, and have considered on many occasions supplying these cheaper fish to alleviate the heavy costs. Every time, even against the recommendation of some of our managers and even the fish suppliers themselves; we have refused to compromise on our high quality and expectations.

Not only have we kept cod as our primary fish, both on our main menu and our supremely popular £10 lunch deal; we also have maintained supply of the highest quality cod we can find.

This particular cod is like the steak of the sea when it comes to cod, and we use it both on our main menu and in our unbeatable lunch deal.

This has been a source of great cost to us but we will not ever sacrifice quality or service. This is despite the cost of our cod to import increasing consistently since  our opening two years ago.

In that time, we have not raised our prices more than 10%, when our supply costs have almost tripled.

We understand price rises are never welcomed, and we do not take it lightly. However, if we wish to maintain the quality, service and amazing taste we are known for; we have to compromise somewhere.

Still, our lunch deal, now at  £12 for cod, chips and a drink, is still one of the best value in Bristol, and the country. There may be cheaper fish available elsewhere, but it will not be the prime cuts of beautiful cod we will always provide, no matter the change of tides in the world and the industry.

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope our patrons continue to enjoy the amazing quality fish we work very hard to supply to our customers.
